Carbon County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 64,749. Carbon County comprises a northern part of the Lehigh Valley, which has a population of 861,889 as of the 2020 U.S. census and is the third most populated region of Pennsylvania and 68th most populated metropolitan region in the U.S. The county is also part of Pennsylvania's Coal Region. The county seat of Carbon County is Jim Thorpe, which was founded in 1818 as Mauch Chunk and served as a company town of the Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company.
